Benevides, a native of Texas, has held numerous positions over his career as an educator, administrator, and superintendent of the Ector County, Texas, Independent School District. His other positions have included teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, director of secondary curriculum, associate superintendent and executive director of Region XIII Education Service Center in Austin, Texas.

He received his bachelor of science and masters in education from Trinity University in San Antonio and his doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&M University at College Station.

Benevides, a past president of the Texas Middle School Association, also works as an educational consultant, speaker and program presenter at professional conferences across the country. Among the many awards and recognition that he has received, he is most pleased to have been selected by the Educational Administration and College of Education at Texas A&M as one of their distinguished and notable graduates.
